The Masters, PBS and Buddhism: Are the Planets Aligning?

At no time in recent history has the American public been as saturated with news of Buddhism as it has this week. As Wen Stephenson implied in Tuesday's Slate.com article "You've Come a Long Way, Buddha" there seems to be something of a cultural confluence afoot as Tiger Woods reemerges on the golf scene, just in time for the Masters, amidst his vows to renew his Buddhist practices (including wearing a wraist bracelet, which he says provides him with strength and that reminds him of his "core values"), and PBS airs its new 2 hour documentary titled The Buddha. Couple these very public events with the installation of HPU's new statue of the Buddha (stay tuned for the results of that promised photo contest) and High Point students may be wondering "Buddha who, Buddha what?" Check out the aforementioned Slate article and then tell me if Tiger is actually wearing his bracelet during the round. What must Gary Snyder be thinking?
