The Pope joins the blogosphere

Last November I posted a link to an article that raised the interesting question as to how the Buddha might use Twitter. Well, apparently the Pope is poised to do Siddhartha one better.

Two days ago, on the Roman Catholic Church's World Day of Communication, Pope Benedict encouraged priests to "proclaim the Gospel by employing the latest generation of audiovisual resources - images, videos, animated features, blogs, Web sites" etc. Of course countless priests and parishes have been maintaining a digital presence for years (The Vatican even has its own website), but this new papal suggestion seems to be raising the bar, and has caused some church watchers to question - Will the Pope blog?

Its not yet clear how closely Pope Benedict will follow his own suggestion, but veteran bloggers are already lining up to give him some advice. Here is a link to a light-hearted NPR story that aired last night:
