New Hanukkah song by... Sen. Orrin Hatch?

As the sun goes down tomorrow, Friday, Dec 11th, Jewish families around the world will be lighting the first candle of the menorah to mark the beginning of the Jewish festival known as Hanukkah (a.k.a. The "Festival of Lights"). Hanukkah commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrians in 165 B.C.E., thereby enabling the liberation and rededication of the Holy Temple of Jerusalem.

Despite this significant event in the history of the Jewish experience though commentators have noted a real gap in the canon of music that celebrates important religious moments. Specifically reflecting on Jewish songs, Jeffery Goldberg, national correspondent for The Atlantic, is recently quoted as saying "Hanukkah music is fairly lame as it goes." So who should step in to fill this void... none other than the distinguished senator from Utah, Sen. Orrin Hatch.

Here is a link to an NPR, All Things Considered, interview with Jeffery Goldberg, as well as a video and audio recording of Sen Hatch's new song "Eight Days of Hanukkah." Enjoy!
